Have you ever thought about the children cosmetic?

January 20th, 2010

When I was a kid, I liked to be beautiful and always wore my mom’s cosmetic secretly. But nowadays, I have no much passion and interest in those fancy cosmetics except for some necessary facial everyday. The reason, I don’t know. When I was using those low priced makeup from the small store, I cared nothing about whether those powder or color hurt my skin or lip. I was crazy about the splendid color world when I was a teenager. I believe that most of parents today still use the adult cosmetic on their children’s face or body, especially the color make up. The fact is right now the specially made cosmetic for children has not yet been developed well.

When most of the sales seriously tell us that their products are totally natural and extracted from the fruit and vegetables, always keep in mind that these are just ads for promotion. When the whole earth environment is polluted, do you still expect that there are so called things totally natural? The point is we have to choose that good quality product comparatively and less stimulation for ourselves and our children.

For the color make up, my suggestion is if needed, once or twice is not a big deal.

Have you ever heard of children stroke?

January 19th, 2010

Today I read news about children stroke, which was happened on a 7 year-old healthy children. It just happened without any signs and so unexpected. Most of stroke cases we have heard were on adults, most of which are above forties or fifties. Slurred speech, droopy eyes, stiffness, inability to walk or even on his own, these symptoms can be described when an adult is taken to an emergency room because of stroke. Can you have any ideas when this is happened to 7 year old children? At least, I have never met this scene around of me. Because of children strokes happening much less than to adult, so the data was extremely limited. I think that researches on children stroke have a long way to go. The rate of children strokes has been growing in recent years, partly as a result of increased awareness and better reporting. It is estimated from the experts at children’s hospital of Philadelphia that the rate in children under 18 is as high as 12 per 100,000 or about 9000 cases a year. In newborns, the data is 25 per 100,000- a rate approaching that of elderly adults.

What I have read make me remind of my three times’ seizure when I was between 9-12 years old. I was always sick in my childhood. Three times of convulsion made my parents really mad at that time. I had no awareness about my sickness; eyes rolled up and just lay on the bed with my mom’s calling me. Maybe it was not much related to stroke and less dangerous than it. But you cannot imagine the anxiety and seriousness at that time when it happened in the dark night and the clinic was far away.

Today’s medical condition is much more advanced than 20 years ago. If some cases unexpected happened on our kids, try to send children to the hospital as fast as possible. Maybe it is the only helpful way to lessen the damage to our children.

Fingernails can tell us

January 15th, 2010

You are what you eat. It is always right. Sometimes body signals can tell us what we are short of in our body. For example, our fingernail has this function. When I was a teenager, I was emerged into playing with my pals and care nothing about my health. As long as I didn’t get sick, I had no awareness of caring my body. However, I knew one thing, which fingernail was sometimes different from each other. More whiter, white fleck in one period and some was flat and easy fractured. The fact is that fingernail can tell us something about our children’s healthy situation.

Nails can reflect some nutritional deficiencies, such as low levels of iron, biotin and protein.

Most nail problems aren’t associated with nutrition, but if children have an iron deficiency, their nails may disclose it. Pale, whitish nail beds are a common symptom of  animia. With more severe deficiencies, the fingernail may change shape — a condition called koilonychia where the nails are thin and concave with raised vertical ridges.

Mediation course for teenagers

January 12th, 2010

Today I read news from The Times that the leading public school in Britain started a new course called mindfulness course for year 10 pupils, teaching pupils how to concentrate and combat anxiety while keeping silent for about 40 minutes. Silence is powerful. It showed teenagers the benefits of silence and helping them to identify and escape corrosive mindsets that could lead to mental health problems such as depression, eating disorders and addiction.

Mindfulness originated in Eastern meditation traditions such as Buddhism but is now an established secular discipline. A growing body of research supports wider use of the approach to address transient stress and deeper mental health problems, including recommendations from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence that it be offered on the NHS to patients suffering from depression.

It seemed that up to now the effect of the course is positive and teenagers who had the course thought it was helpful to get sleep and good to cut down the nervous at school cricket matches.

Most of the readers advocate it. Why should we deny it if it is useful for our development? However, there is always negative voice when new things emerge into our life and somebody said that it was eyewash. Personally speaking, I think that this kind of new course would be uptake and become a new way to teach us when we are teenagers to help ourselves from those mental problems. After all, more and more tragedy results from the mindset problems in today’s life. When we say that mindset decides everything of a person, no body teaches a course in class how to tackle this problem.

Hope that mindfulness course could finally  benefit most of us.

How to choose baby’s underwear?

January 9th, 2010

When I knew that I was going to have a baby, I began to prepare my baby’s underwear and clothes. It was happy time when the shopping bag was full of baby’s kits and tiny clothes. Share some tips with mother to be when choosing baby’s underwear.

1.wide open your eyes

Good brand and with all product instructions. The color of underwear should be light natural color. Avoid of dark or bright color underwear because of chemical dyestuff maybe contained. Most of the baby underwear is made of cotton. So that notice the washing shrinkage and too big size is not good and comfortable.

2.smell with your nose carefully

If you smell some chemical odor, give it up. Good baby’s underwear smells like light cotton odor and naturally.

3.touch it with your hands

This is the most important step when shopping baby’s underwear. Touch it to find out the softness. You can also touch it with your face. Try to stretch the elastic of the sleeves and pants. If it is not elastic much, give it up. When you get it home, it is best to cut down the washing mark and avoid possibility of needle or sharp decoration.

4.Asking

It is always useful to ask your friends’ advice. The second point is to find some information that other moms share on the internet.

At last, I want to suggest another advice about washing baby’s underwear. Before putting your baby on the new clothes, it is essential to wash it and use baby’s washing fluid to protect the dedicated skin. Hope to see your share on protecting our babies.

Yogurt, best beverage and snacks for your children

January 5th, 2010

In one of my previous passages, I mentioned that children prefer those various kinds of soft drinks with a lot of industrial ingredient and additives. But today I recommend just only one kind for both adults and kids. That is just yogurt. The city where I live now is a costal city. People here prefer yogurt to milk and you can find many kinds of package of yogurt in the supermarket. I gradually accept and begin to love this beverage which cannot be found very much in my hometown. Yogurt is delicious and has a lot of benefits that milk cannot provide.

Firstly, help preventing osteoporosis. This function is attributed to the combination of Calcium and Vitamin D, which plays a great role in the bones for every stage of ages.

Secondly, take down the risk of getting high blood pressure. There is a research from the doctor of Harvard University saying that the person who has two to three bags of yogurt has 50% less risk of getting high blood pressure.

Thirdly, promote our immune system.

The fourth good effect is for the women. Yogurt can greatly help the women to be away from gynecological diseases. Yogurt can provide women with acid environment for the salubrious bacteria.

And the fifth benefit is that yogurt can help to control your diet. Choose from the same calorie milk, juice and yogurt, yogurt makes you feel more full.

I list the above reasons just because yogurt is a good choose if you want to buy your children some health snacks or beverage. Or you can also make delicious yogurt by yourself, homemade.

Kidnapping, a horrible word

December 21st, 2009

I heard from the news that kidnapping shows rampant this year in Shenzhen, one of the first four cities which were opened to the world in 1979 in China and the rumors of the kidnapping cases in Shenzhen grows to 20 or so in the last several months. Maybe the panic is not so much severe compared with the situation of kidnapping in London but it really tense people’s nerve especially for those wealthy families, living in the luxury residential apartment around the school building. Two out of the three cases announced publicly by the security bureau was killed after the criminals got the money as required. People get wealthy with the development of the city are the goals of those people, making a desperate move. It is a nightmare for parents, losing their children. However, parents’ warning, education and some preparation for children in daily life decrease the chances of children being kidnapped to great extent.

Let’s share some resources from the web for the sake of our kids.

  1. The Polly Klaas Foundation offers a free child safety kit which includes do-it-yourself fingerprint and DNA documentation.
  1. There are a number of helpful child-safety publications, as well as a wealth of other information, on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website.
  2. The United States Department of Justice furnishes a searchable sex-offender database.
  3. You can purchase a stranger safety DVD on The Safe Side website. You will also find family and classroom discussion questions on this site. These questions are free to download.  Although there is a cost involved with the DVD, it might be worthwhile to split the purchase with other parents. Plan a night when several families can get together to watch the program. Use the discussion questions in conjunction with the DVD.

I check all the websites and some of them are really helpful. Hope that these resources can help us to do something.

Make your home non smoking environment

December 11th, 2009

I dislike smoking very much. I cannot breathe in the house full of smoke. My father smoke a lot now and it is really hard for him to get rid of it after more than a decade smoking habit. My brother started to smoke at high school and seems to get heavier in the university. They are just addicted to it. Most of the workers here in the factory are not older than 20 years old. Of course, my working place is not a black workshop, hiring minors to save the cost. Most of the young teenagers here have not graduated from technical college yet. Normally they start intern in the factory at the start of the third semester. Most of them are 18, 19 years old. However, three second of the pupils smoke and a great part of them has two to three years’ smoking age.

Maybe we think it is nothing new to see a young teenager smoking at the street any longer. We are used to it. More and more teenagers become the victims of nicotine and cancer causing toxins at a young age. The report of increased death of lung cancer cannot make a difference for them as well.

As the no smokers, we cannot avoid the effect of second hand smoke in the public but we can make the house much healthier, for the safety of our kids and ourselves as well.

Today I read news from the newspaper that in 2008, the figure of people not be harmed by smoke and second hand smoke is only 5.4% globally. Before you find any signal of your kids smoking, tell them and let them know deeply about the harm of smoking. Help you kids set up the right view of smoking at a young age. Smoking is not just cool as it seems on the face. On the other hand, make sure that your house should never be a place that allows smoking for everyone.

If you want to be healthy, drink water.

December 10th, 2009

When I was a teenager, I was mad about those sweet and sour soft drinks and sweet ice cream. And my brother always has sweet drinks instead of plain water all day long. These colorful drinks and milky aroma pull your nerve tightly and it is really hard to deny it, especially for kids and teenagers. Kids don’t like plain water, which is the most useful ingredient of our body and most easily absorbed substance by our body. The importance of water may be not thoroughly realized by us. A lot of illness is resulted from inadequate water we have. Somebody will say that he feel nothing uncomfortable of his body even though a lot of soft drinks poured into the stomach. How to explain it?

From my point of view, water, especially plain water, is the most important medium for the chemical reaction in the cell. It enhances the good circulation of blood, transportation of waste and urination. However, most of the soft drinks in the market today are added by industry additives. Our kids’ attention is all drew on those delicious and good looking drinks with beautiful wrappers around and cool movie star printed on the bottle. The next step is trying to let your kids have more plain water. From now on, tell kids as much as you can that if you want to be pretty, drink water. If you want to be healthy, drink water. If you want to be slim, still drink water. Parents should be kids’ example at the same time.

onions, maybe a good choice to protect your family

December 3rd, 2009

I want to share it with all of you because it may helps during the H1N1 flu epidemic days. Whether it is true or not, what we loss to buy some onions and put them in our house for kids and people we love.

In 1919, when the flu killed 40million people, there   was this doctor that visited the many farmers to see if   he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers   and their family had contracted it, and many died. The doctor came upon this one farmer, and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different, the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the room of the home (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn’t believe it, and asked if he could have one of the onions, and place it under the microscope. She gave him one, and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore keeping the family healthy. Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in Arizona. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu, and so were many of her customers. The next year, she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.  (And no, she is not in the onion business.)The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office, or under your desk, or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year, and we never got the flu. If this helps you and you loved ones from getting sick, the entire better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case. Whatever, what have you to lose?

Just a few bucks on onions!  Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions: I don’t know about the farmer’s story, but I do know that I contracted   pneumonia, and needless to say I was very ill. I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion, put one end on a fork, and then place the forked end into an empty jar, placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs. Sure enough, it happened just like that. The onion was a mess, and I began to feel better. Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago.

The above is the whole  passage and I really buy some onions and put them in the  room. For kids and ourselves, why not to have a try.
