Children book resources

January 4th, 2010

Today, I am going to share some internet children’s book resources with all of parents.

  1. jacketflap.com,a comprehensive website for children of elementary school. It has a great number of writers and teachers as its member. It is my favorite children’s book website. I can find nearly every aspect of children books and educational method here. I can communicate with other members and learn a great lot about children psychology and behavior. Of course, I can also share with others my mind about teaching children.
  2. Underdown.org, a archive for the children’s book resource and a guide for different requirements of the children’s books and education.

If you want a guide, it is really a good website and really informational.

Kidnapping, a horrible word

December 21st, 2009

I heard from the news that kidnapping shows rampant this year in Shenzhen, one of the first four cities which were opened to the world in 1979 in China and the rumors of the kidnapping cases in Shenzhen grows to 20 or so in the last several months. Maybe the panic is not so much severe compared with the situation of kidnapping in London but it really tense people’s nerve especially for those wealthy families, living in the luxury residential apartment around the school building. Two out of the three cases announced publicly by the security bureau was killed after the criminals got the money as required. People get wealthy with the development of the city are the goals of those people, making a desperate move. It is a nightmare for parents, losing their children. However, parents’ warning, education and some preparation for children in daily life decrease the chances of children being kidnapped to great extent.

Let’s share some resources from the web for the sake of our kids.

  1. The Polly Klaas Foundation offers a free child safety kit which includes do-it-yourself fingerprint and DNA documentation.
  1. There are a number of helpful child-safety publications, as well as a wealth of other information, on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website.
  2. The United States Department of Justice furnishes a searchable sex-offender database.
  3. You can purchase a stranger safety DVD on The Safe Side website. You will also find family and classroom discussion questions on this site. These questions are free to download.  Although there is a cost involved with the DVD, it might be worthwhile to split the purchase with other parents. Plan a night when several families can get together to watch the program. Use the discussion questions in conjunction with the DVD.

I check all the websites and some of them are really helpful. Hope that these resources can help us to do something.

Most recommended child books

November 6th, 2009

Parents read books to kids at bedtime everyday when it comes to age 3 or 4. We all love fairy tales when we are young. Here to recommend several world famous child books.

  1. Platero and I

By Spanish poet Juan Ramon Jimenez (1881-1958), 1956 Nobel Prize winner for literature. It has 137 chapters, affects thousands of people in decades and is enjoyed by kids of different colors all over the word. This is not only a child book of happiness and sorrow but also a good prose for grown ups. Beautiful words and great lyricism make it one that makes you cry after reading a passage.

  1. Charlotte’s web

E.B. White, the most famous writer of prose and child literature in America, has many great child works, of which Stuant little, the trumpet of the swan and Charlotte’s web are three most popular child books in the 20th century. However, Charlotte’s web is the best of the best praised ones. It is a tale of love and friendship between a pig and spider, which saved the pig later. Warm, moving, beautiful and wide spider net weaved by White touches so many peoples’ heart.

  1. Little price

World famous French child books, wrote by French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It is suitable for both kids and grownups, who grow up from kids.

  1. Harry potter

Harry potter is the rage from its first one to the sixth. The four actors spend five years on it and now Harry is 16 years old. I read it in high school. It is really a fantastic fairy tale for all those want to have the dream of magic and recall the happy times at young ages. Harry potter really makes J.K. Rowling (actually her pen name) the wealthiest woman in UK.
